It’s no secret that the Toronto Blue Jays have been among the most active teams in baseball so far this off-season, linked to a seemingly endless number of top-end names. And with the holidays drawing near, it seems outfielder Randal Grichuk has his eye on one particular off-season gift falling the Blue Jays’ way.
Asked during a Friday appearance on MLB Network Radio what the perfect Christmas present would be for he and the Blue Jays this off-season, Grichuk wasted little time in mulling his options: “Uh, Trevor Bauer?”
“Anytime you can get a bone fide ace, that’s something that you dream of,” Grichuk continued. “You know, a guy you can throw up in Game 1 of a playoff series and know that you have one heck of a chance to score one run and win a ball game.”
The Blue Jays have made it well-known that they are in the hunt to add some top-end talent this off-season. On Thursday, general manager Ross Atkins confirmed that the club remains in on all those blue-chip targets, and haven’t yet eliminated any of them from their plans.
Bauer is widely regarded as the top pitcher on the free-agent market. Back in October, Grichuk took another run at selling Bauer on joining Toronto:

The former St. Louis Cardinal said he and his fellow Jays believe they can be a special team, now and for years to come, but seeing the Blue Jays front office’s willingness to potentially spend top dollar on a premier talent has served as a key vote of confidence.
“That’s huge. This off-season has been all about waiting to hear what moves we’re going to make cause we know we’re going to make some,” he said.
“It’s definitely an exciting time for everybody on the team and in the organization, that’s for sure.”
