This was unthinkable in the past: USA failed the men’s 4x100m relay in the preliminary race.
And not because of any mistake. American men are just too slow. The quartet Trayvon Brommel, Fred Carey, Ronnie Baker and Craven Gillespie came sixth in only the second preliminary run and there was only one spectator in the final.
In the first run, Jamaica (Minzi, Fort, Blake, Seville) overtook Great Britain and Japan. Surprisingly, China (Tang, Xie, Su, Wu) won the second heat. Behind them is Canada (approximately 200 m Olympic champion de Grasse), Italy with 100 m Olympic champion Jacobs taking third place. Over time, Germany and Ghana progressed.
The final will take place on Friday at 3:50 pm (CEST).
