LAKE LOUIS/KILLINGTON (DPA) – World Cup runners-up Romade Baumann and Andreas Sander lead a German Ski Association team in the first speed events of the season over the weekend in Lake Louise.
Baumann (Kiefersfelden) won silver in Super-G in title fights at Cortina d’Ampezzo in February, Sander (Annepetal) silver in downhill. “I believe, I think the form fits as well, and I’m glad things are starting again now,” Baumann said in a message from DSV. The German quintet for the race in Canada is completed by Josef Fürstel (Hammer), Simon Jocher (Garmisch) and Dominic Schweiger (Königssee).
After one downhill on Friday and one on Saturday, the men’s Super-G takes place on Sunday at Lake Louise. Five-time World Cup winner Thomas Dresen will train again in early December at the earliest as a result of his knee operation and will not be able to take part in a race before Christmas.
DSV named Andrea Filser (Wildstig) and Marlene Schmotz (Leitzachtal) for the women’s giant slalom in Killington on Saturday. The pair will also start in slalom on Sunday, where Lena Durr (Germaring) and Emma Eichner (Mahlstetten) will also hit the slopes.
