Five-time world champion Emma Heinz extended her lead in the overall standings to second out of five stations in the new Champions League in track cycling.
The 24-year-old from Cottbus won the sprint tournament against Canada’s Laurian Genest in Panvezis/Lithuania. In Keirin, Hinze finished second. “The race was tough,” Hinge said. “It’s nice to expand your edge.”
Cottbus’ world champion Lee Sophie Frederick Keirin moved from third to second in the overall ranking with her victory in the competition. In the sprint, the 21-year-old finished tenth. In the overall ranking, which is endowed with prize money of 25,000 euros, Hinge is ahead of Frederick (56) and Canadian Olympic sprint champion Kelsey Mitchell (50) on 74 points.
In the men’s sprint field, Chemnitz’s Stefan Bauticher confirmed his good form and defended his second place in the overall standings with 59 points behind Dutch Olympic and world champion Harry Lavrison (77). At Panevėžys, Bouticher finished third in the kerin and fifth in the sprint.
