DOHA (SID) – Canada’s national soccer coach John Herdman is leaving Qatar in a positive spirit despite his initial failure. “There were some great moments. We can be proud of the achievements. The world will talk positively about Canada,” said the coach after the 1-2 (1-2) draw in the third World Cup group game against Morocco. ‘ I’m not going to bow my head with them.”
Competing in only their second World Cup since their debut in 1986, Canada was eliminated last in Group F and still waiting for their first points in the final round. But Herdmann managed to take a lot of positives from the defeats against Belgium (0:1), Croatia (1:4) and Morocco.
“We had something to celebrate in each of the three games,” Herdman said, referring to the underdog’s first World Cup goal. Bayern professional Alphonso Davies broke Canada’s goal ban on the World Cup stage in a duel with the Croatian. “As a football nation, we can be proud,” said the 47-year-old.
His team has already secured its ticket for the next World Cup, the 2026 tournament to be held in Canada, USA and Mexico. Herdman thinks Football Midget is on the right track with a vision of the next highlight. “The next level is world class, we haven’t got much left,” he said.
