From a report by malware analysts on dr.web Shows that more than 9 million Android devices have been infected with the dreaded Trojan horse Huawei AppGallery is infected. They installed games infected with this dangerous virus.
According to the report, Android.Cynos.7.origin is the name of the Trojan that was built into the app and found on consumer devices through Huawei AppGallery. The data shows that around 9,300,000 owners of Android devices have already installed the apps and are using them for a long time.
Affected Android devices: Huawei AppGallery as a starting point
The Huawei AppGallery has about 190 games with integrated Trojans in different categories. Overall, these games have been downloaded by over 9.0 million users. Some of these games are for Russian users, others for Chinese or international audiences.
Apps with this Trojan ask users for specific permissions, eg. B. To recover phone data. Once permission is granted, the Trojan can collect user data and send it to a remote service, including the following data:
- user’s mobile phone number
- Device location based on GPS coordinates or data from cellular networks and Wi-Fi access points (if the application has permission to access the location)
- various parameters of the cellular network, such as the B network code and the country code of the cellular network; GSM cell ID and international GSM area code as well (if the application has permission to access the location)
- Various technical data of the device
- Various parameters from the Trojanized application’s metadata
