German series broke at the Bobsleigh World Cup in Altenberg

Bobsleigh pilot Laura Nolte has already won two in it. Altenberg has a fast at home track that feels even more comfortable here.

Altenberg. Laura Nolte’s winning streak in the two-man bobsleigh World Cup was broken at all places at the home World Cup in Altenberg. After two successes in the first two races of the season, she and her pusher Deborah Levy had to give up on Sunday – once again notably from USA’s Callie Humphries, who always excelled at Altenberg. “In the end it was very close, but we are moving in the right direction,” Nolte said afterwards.

Winterberger was 0.04 seconds behind Humphries, who obtained US citizenship this week as a native Canadian. Canadian Christine De Bruyne finished third in front of fourth-placed Wiesbaden rider Kim Kaliki, who drove with Ann-Kristin Strak. Olympic champion Mariama Zamanka of BRC Thuringia finished 10th, while Kira Lipperhide finished behind China.

Humphries dominates Altenberg like no other. The 2010 and 2014 Olympic champions, at the time for Canada, became world champions on the demanding track at Kohlgrund in both 2020 and this year. In addition, she won the Monoboob competition held at that time on her favorite track at the World Cup in February.

“Two mistakes at the bottom of the track were the deciding factor in ultimately defeating Kelly Humphries at home track. Still, we are very pleased with second place. The other two teams were not in good shape, both in terms of start time and performance. Wasn’t up to our level,” said national coach René Spice.

On Sunday afternoon, the World Cup in Altenberg will conclude with the men’s four-man bobsled. Francesco Frederick has won all the races so far this season and this time too Pirna and his team are the favourites.
