© Reuters. Canadian shares rise at the close of trading; S&P/TSX up 0.85%Investing.com – Canadian shares edged higher after Thursday’s close, and prices edged higher.
It was up 0.85% at the end of trading in Toronto.
Best performance of the season in Render ECN Capital Corp. (TSX:), which closed 12.63% or 0.60 points higher at 5.30. Hut 8 Mining Corp (TSX:) added 7.39%, or 0.770 points, to end at 11.190. Sentra Gold Inc (TSX:) was up 6.12%, or 0.57 points, at 9.88 in late trading.
The worst performer of the session was Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:), falling 5.04%, or 2.33 points, to settle at 43.94. Cascade Inc. (TSX:) closed at 13.33, down 3.48% or 0.48 points. Tourmaline Oil Corporation (TSX:) was down 3.06%, or 1.28 points, at 40.49.
On the Toronto Stock Exchange, advance stocks ended lower, falling from 779 to 262 and 96 unchanged.
Shares of ECN Capital Corp (TSX:) hit 52-week low; A gain of 12.63% or 0.60 to 5.30.
The S&P/TSX which measures the implied volatility of options was down 9.63% at 13.23.
Gold futures for delivery in February rose 0.41%, or $7.45, to $1,809.65 per troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude for delivery in February rose 1.59%, or $1.16, to $73.92 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract was up 1.95%, or 1.47, to trade at $76.75 a barrel.
The CAD/USD rose 0.20% to 0.7805 while the CAD/EUR gained 0.15% to 0.6888.
US dollar index futures were down 0.05% at 96.015.
