On January 6, 2021, a New Yorker attacked a police officer in front of the Capitol with a flagpole. A judge ruled that he had to go to prison for ten years. The convict had been a New York police officer for 20 years.

A former police officer has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was involved in attacking the Capitol on January 6, 2021, attacking a police officer with a metal flag, and then attempting to rip the gas mask off his face. The brawl was recorded by a Washington police officer’s body-mounted camera.

It is the longest prison sentence in a Washington riots trial. So far about 250 judgments have been pronounced.

The criminal apologized to the victim

The 56-year-old criminal claimed to have acted in self-defense during the process. He apologized to the police officer he attacked. He wished he had never been to Washington.

“I don’t think you’re a bad person,” the judge said at sentencing. Rather, the former policeman was “caught for the moment” – but there were consequences.

The convicted person is not required to begin his prison sentence immediately. He served as a police officer in New York for 20 years, before serving as a soldier in the US Marines for four years.
