Apple Watch S7 doesn’t have diagnostic port: instead, diagnostic via wireless connection?

The new Apple Watch Series 7 no longer has a diagnostic port. Until now, Apple Support staff used it to check or recover Apple Watch problems. Instead, the new watch is likely to use a different technology.

Apple’s new Apple Watch Series 7 no longer has a diagnostic port for internal purposes. Until now, all models of Apple Watch were equipped with access that could only be used by Apple employees at any time in an Apple Store or by authorized service providers using specialized equipment.

This enabled the support team to get to the bottom of the problems with the Apple Watch and restart a faulty watch if the problem was software related only. The new Apple Watch Series 7 doesn’t have a port like The Verge, among others confirm could.

New diagnosis via wireless connection

However, the new Apple Watch Series 7 is equipped with support for 60.5 GHz data transfer mode instead of a diagnostic port, as we do in a related message Citing a filing with the US FCC.

The transfer is wireless, but not contactless, with the watch attached much like via a special magnetic dock, which in turn is probably only available to Apple employees.

Since the new Apple Watch Series 7 is protected against dust according to IP6X, it would be possible that the omitted port could help make this level of protection possible.
