Andrew Judd was born in Toronto in 1958 and graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1979. He has since lived with his wife Renu Sarao in Hamilton – Montreal and Vienna, where he works as an art director, illustrator and illustrator. His paintings are influenced by impressive color application, color harmony and narrative atmosphere, particularly in Viennese cafe paintings. He often tells his art students: “…don’t tell the whole story”, meaning something like: “Don’t tell the whole story, let the audience develop their story further in the pictures.”

His major awards include: Gold Medal from Ontario College of Art, Gold Award, Plein Air Salon 2021 “Best Oil”, as well as second place in 2021 “The McMichael Plein Air Competition”. In addition to lectures at art schools, art societies and associations, Andrew holds workshops and also gives private lessons. The award-winning photograph of “Best Oil” now belongs to Altmünster painter/gallerist Angelica Toma and is named after the famous “Café Havelka” in Vienna.

As part of the European Capital of Culture 2024 Bad Ischl and Salzkammergut, gallery owner Angelica Toma will be showing, in addition to the photo above, four other photographs in her possession by the artist at her Gallery 22 in Altmünster. In addition, new works are exhibited and presented to the public.

This is also the reason for her visit to Altmünster to get to know the artist Angelica Toma personally and to plan a joint exhibition “Spiegelbuilder”. Also, Andrew Judd “What is art?” Will organize a workshop and panel discussion on the topic.

Of course, during this first visit to the Truancy region, he admired the landscape in detail from the best vantage point on Gmundnerberg in Altmünster – these were also captured in paintings for any subsequent projects.
