Canada overtakes Italy and reaches fourth place

RIGA, Latvia (Associated Press) – Andrew Mangyapan scored two goals and two assists to beat Canada 7-1 unbeaten at the Ice Hockey World Championships on Sunday to reach fourth place in a Group B game.

Canada won three in a row after losing in the top three. They conclude the preliminary round against Finland on Tuesday, with the top four from each group progressing to the quarter-finals.

And Andre Heinrich provided one goal and two assists, Maxim Comtois, Troy Stitcher, Brandon Perry and Cole Perfetti, and Connor Brown added four assists. Edin Hill made 13 saves and only allowed Angelo Miselli to score.

In the second Group B match, Anton Lundell scored a 3–2 win over Latvia of Finland four seconds before extra time ended. Finland tops the group with 15 points, three points behind the US. Kazakhstan ranks third in 10th place, while Canada, Germany and Latvia each have nine.

USA will play Germany again on Monday and will end with a group game against Italy on Tuesday.

In the first set, Viktor Olofsson helped Sweden beat Slovakia 3–1 in a strong game before 8:22, and Joel Vermin scored two goals and an assist in Switzerland’s 6–0 win over Belarus. .

Slovakia, Russia and Switzerland top the group with 12 points. Sweden is in ninth place.
