You call it a successful PR coup: Piers Morgan interviews former US President Donald Trump for the first episode of his new TV show. A trailer suggests that there was a scandal.

Hardly anyone has mastered the game of attention and limelight quite like Piers Morgan. The 57-year-old is Britain’s best-known tabloid journalist, wrote for the “Sun”, was editor-in-chief of “News of the World” and “Daily Mirror”, and repeatedly stirred up provocative statements on television.

Now Britain has got its own TV show. Piers Morgan Uncensored premieres Monday, April 25. The presenter was able to win a very special guest for the first issue: former US President Donald Trump. Morgan has now published a 30-second excerpt of this on Twitter, which reveals what really broke up between the two:

The edited sequence shows how Trump insults his counterpart: he is an honest man, “more honest than you”. To Morgan’s question, “Do you think I’m an idiot?” The former president replies: “I think so now.” At the end of the 30-second clip, it appears that Trump angrily breaks off the interview.

Donald Trump and Piers Morgan are friends

It is surprising that things should have been this way between men. Because the two have been friends for a long time. One of the reasons for the controversy, as the short trailer shows, is apparently the 2020 presidential election. Trump lost, but does not want to accept his defeat till date. In contrast, Morgan describes the election as legitimate: “It was a free and fair election. You lost,” Morgan says. To date, Trump has presented no evidence that illegality has occurred. The president-elect reacted aggressively.

However, it is doubtful whether the conversation really escalated as much as the trailer suggests. A Trump spokeswoman described the 30-second video as manipulative and provided an audio recording to NBC News, in which the two men sat together and laughed.

Piers Morgan will be fine with discussion: The more actual events are discussed, the more interest his show will have. No one can fool him in this area: Donald Trump can still learn a lot from him in terms of media ability.
