“Friends” Star Tyler Has Terminal Cancer

James Michael Tyler played cafe manager Gunther in the US sitcom “Friends” for nearly ten years. Now the actor is making his cancer public. According to him, this disease is quite advanced.

‘Friends’ star James Michael Tyler has incurable cancer. The actor who played Gunther in the cult series for several years now said so on the “Today Show.” In September 2018, he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer that had spread to his bones. The disease is now in its final stage. “It’ll probably get to me at some point,” Tyler said. Presently he is undergoing chemotherapy. He could no longer walk due to tumors in his spine and bones. Photos contributed to the “Today Show” show the actor in a wheelchair.

Cancer is also the reason Tyler was not personally involved in the “Friends” reunion. In this, he can be seen only through video call. However, Tyler kept his diagnosis to himself so as not to overshadow the happy event with the sad news.

“Last year my goal was to celebrate my 59th birthday,” he says tearfully. “I did it.” Now his goal is to “save at least one life” by promoting early cancer screening.

James Michael Tyler played a supporting role of Gunther in “Friends” for nearly ten years. He played the role of manager of the cafe “Central Perk” from 1994 to 2004. The series stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc in “Friends: The Reunion” returning to its original location. Reviewed cult comedies and sitcoms on the premises of Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank.
