iCar: Apple shares strong nearing trading: Former BMW top manager brought in for Apple Cars | message

Ulrich Kranz is now working for Apple, the iPhone group confirmed to tech blogs “The Verge” and “TechCrunch” Friday night, without providing any further details. According to information from financial services Bloomberg, Kranz will work in the team of Doug Field, a former Tesla manager at Apple, who is leading a car project.

At BMW, Kranz was one of the developers of the i3 electric car and the i8 sports car. after that he was with Electric Car-Startup Faraday Future and then co-founded Canoo. He was the head of Kanu till April. A few weeks later, Apple brought him on board, Bloomberg wrote.

For years, Apple has been developing technology for autonomous driving and testing SUVs converted from Toyota luxury brand Lexus into robotic cars on public roads. At the beginning of the car project, which ran for more than five years, Apple also showed prototypes to suppliers, but after that it shifted mainly to software.

In the past few months, speculation about the Apple Car was rekindled, which had been simmering for years. Above all, media reports spoke of a collaboration with the South Korean Hyundai Group and its Kia brand. Then Hyundai announced that there are currently no discussions with Apple regarding the development of self-driving cars.

Apple’s shares were up 0.98 percent at $127.35 from Nasdaq trading on Friday.
