Man Allegedly Swallowed by Humpback Whale - He Survived

In the United States, a fisherman claims to have been swallowed by a whale and then spit again. The incident happened near Cape Cod on Friday morning (local time).

Michael Packard is an experienced diver who catches lobsters on the ocean floor. But now he himself was the victim. According to his own account, a humpback whale swallowed him on the second dive. He spent about 30 seconds inside the whale, he told US media. Then the whale spit it out again. During his time inside the mammal, he was able to continue breathing through his diving equipment.

“All of a sudden I felt this massive bump and next thing I knew it was completely black,” Packard recalled Friday afternoon after being discharged from Cape Cod hospital in Hyannis. “I could feel myself moving and I could feel the whale squeezing it with the muscles in its mouth.”

There is no eyewitness to how the whale swallowed him, but there are about his salvation. His colleague Josiah Mayo saw the whale appear and spit Packard and shared his observations with his sister, Cynthia.

Humpback whales can grow up to 15 meters long and feed on krill and small fish. They are known for their chanting and acrobatics with water. Cape Cod is famous not only for its lobsters, but also for the whales that feed there, especially in April.
