Meyer Werft’s latest new building, “Disney Wish,” was shown under the open sky for the first time on Friday. While undocked, the 341 m long ship was slowly pulled backwards from the hull.

“We waited for peace in the afternoon,” said a company spokesman in Papenburg. In the morning it was still very windy on EMS. The shipyard is located on the pier of the harbor after undocking at the stern with the blue and white “Disney Wish” fairy tale character Rapunzel. Later that evening, a larger component of the next ship, the “Arriva”, was to take up space in the dock hall. After “Disney Fantasy” (2012) and “Disney Dream” (2010), “Disney Wish” is the third ship that Meyer Werft is building for the world’s largest entertainment conglomerate.

characters from Disney movies inside

Within the company, the “Disney Wish” is considered “perhaps the most complex cruise ship ever built” with special requirements for entertainment technology. The interior design takes on scenes and characters from many popular Disney cartoons. Before delivery, the ship still has to complete the normal phases for new construction at Meyer Werft: a 40-kilometre route from Ames to the North Sea and a final extension at Bremerhaven.

Delay due to ohmron wave

The “Disney Wish”, designed for 4,000 passengers in 1,250 cabins, is set to launch its maiden voyage on July 14 with a delay of several weeks. This was announced by Thomas Mazloum, President of Disney Cruise Line. Meyer Werft blamed slow supply chains in the Omicron wave for the delay, so the original date of June 9 could not be met.
