Police descend on Glasgow city center after reports police officer stabbed

Assistant Chief Constable with Police Scotland Steve Johnson stated the male suspect was shot by armed law enforcement and a police officer was injured although working with the incident.

“We are continuing to offer with the incident on West George Road #Glasgow and would inquire persons to stay away from the location,” Johnson explained.

“Having said that, I would like to reassure the public that this is a contained incident and that the broader community is not at risk. Armed police officers attended the incident and I can validate that a male suspect was shot by an armed officer.

“I would like to reassure the general public that at this time we are not looking for any individual else in relation to this incident. I can also confirm that a law enforcement officer was hurt when dealing with the incident and that officer is obtaining procedure in clinic,” Johnson reported.

Previously, Higher Glasgow police tweeted: “Crisis companies are at this time working with an incident on West George Avenue in Glasgow. The road is currently shut off and the community are asked to stay clear of the area at present. The problem is contained at this time and there is no threat to the basic public.”
The Scottish Police Federation, which represents rank and file officers, tweeted: “We are informed of reports a police officer has been stabbed in an incident in #Glasgow city centre. Our officials are in attendance to deliver all needed help. You should make it possible for our collages the place to do their positions. Further updates will be presented when we are able to do so.”

Scotland’s 1st Minister Nicola Sturgeon has questioned the community through Twitter to prevent the West George Street region of Glasgow where the incident took spot, while the law enforcement offers with it.

British Key Minister Boris Johnson tweeted that he was “deeply saddened” by the incident.
