BMW CE 02 – E-Motorcycle for Young People

With the Concept CE 02, BMW is not only offering motorcycles for young people and driving license class A1, it is also a step towards electromobility for two-wheelers. However, at the moment it is more about movement in the urban space.

At IAA Mobility in Munich (7-12 September), BMW-Motorrad is showing for the first time a motorcycle aimed primarily at young people aged 16 and over. It is a so-called concept which, according to the Munich-based company, represents the initial phase of a project that is already well advanced internally. The concept with the abbreviation CE02 is a fully electric small motorcycle with an output of 15 hp and can be driven from 16 years with a Class A1 driving license.

The Concept CE 02 weighs just 120 kg.

Smaller dimensions and a youthful appearance should also make the CE 02 optically attractive. With 120kg ready-to-drive and thanks to the e-machine’s powerful acceleration, the propulsion should also be quite attractive. However, the top speed will be limited to 90 km/h. The specified range in an urban environment is 90 km. So that even the new bikes don’t have any problem with operation, it should be very easy. Because, according to BMW’s will, the vehicle should “become a constant companion in everyday life”.

With the Concept CE 02, BMW is also showing off an entirely new generation of safety clothing.

The continuous bench allows for different seating positions and also allows the other person to be carried along. The space between the seat and the frame also provides room for small accessories. It is therefore not possible to attach very large utensils such as skateboards to the area in front of the bench using two crossed rubber bands. The seat height is extremely low at 73cm and should appeal to non-motorcyclists as well. The 15-inch disc wheel spins back and forth.

While there is still no information on the battery, BMW is already hinting at a new type of outerwear that will take it to a whole new level in terms of both design and safety. A newly developed technology allows, among other things, a security function to be printed. The integrated, volume-forming material is abrasion-resistant and impact-absorbing. Production of the materials and manufacture of the jacket – there are separate models for women and men – will be entirely in Germany, promises BMW.
