Switzerland have moved up to the top of Group A of the Italian Preliminary Round, with a surprise win against record world champion Canada at the Ice Hockey World Championships.

On Saturday the Swiss team, which was strong this year, also won its fifth group game against Canada 6:3 (3:3, 1:0, 2:0) in a highly-rated game.

It was Canada’s first defeat in the fifth game. Both teams have already qualified for the quarter-finals, as Germany finished third. In the final games, all three nations still have a chance to win the group and thus secure the best starting position for the knockout stages. On the other hand, for Italy, it is all about staying up against Slovakia (7.20 PM) and Kazakhstan (Monday).

On the other hand, for Austria, as expected, there was nothing to gain in the Ice Hockey World Championships against Olympic champions Finland on Saturday. The Red-White-Red selection lost 0:3 (0:1,0:1,0:1) in Tampere on Saturday. After a day of rest in the final game against Great Britain on Monday, the EHV team is now worried about staying in the league.
