Nils Behrens, head of the refueling and washing department at Globus Markthalen Holding, confirmed this when asked by Saarbrücker Zeitung. According to Behrens, there were “short-term vacancies” at both Saarland locations. He cites supply chain delays due to less water in the Rhine as the reason. This was already the case in 2018.

Tank tourists from France visit Globus gas stations

According to Behrens, the proximity of France and Luxembourg also plays a role. Because near the border, “tank tourism may have changed for the first time in many years”. This leads to an increase in volume at Globus petrol stations, so that in combination with delivery difficulties, bottlenecks can quickly arise.

Behrens does not rule out the possibility that the ban on vacancies or fewer petrol pumps will be repeated. “There may be temporary vacancies at different locations at all times.”
