Amazon is synonymous with online trading for many people. But now the group wants to open a department store, according to a media report. Accordingly, clothing, technology and household goods are to be sold there.

According to a media report, Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer, wants to open big stores like department stores. Citing insiders, the “Wall Street Journal” wrote, the first branches are set to begin in California and Ohio. However, Amazon did not want to confirm this when asked.

Textiles and Technology

However, such progress will not come as a complete surprise. Amazon may have grown up as a seller of everything on the Internet, but it has been rocking traditional retail for years. Founded in 1994 by star entrepreneur Jeff Bezos, the group operates grocery chains under brands such as Amazon Fresh and Amazon-4-Star and also has smaller stores for books and other products. Amazon also has US supermarket chain Whole Foods.

With larger stores, Amazon can also keep its clothing, home and technology offerings outside the Internet. Amazon has recently become the largest seller of clothing in the United States. According to Wells Fargo Bank, the group has overtaken supermarket chain Walmart here. Along with this, arrangements should also be made for the return of goods to the shops.

smaller than average department store

According to the “Wall Street Journal”, the branches with an area of about 2800 square meters will be significantly larger than Amazon’s previous retail stores, but much smaller than the average department store in the United States. The report did not contain any specific information about the timetable.
