US Secretary of Defense in Israel between nuclear talks with Iran and America

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin made his first visit to Israel by a key member of President Joe Biden’s government, whose stance on Iran has alarmed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration.

Israeli Defense Secretary Benny Gantz told his American counterpart on Sunday that Israel sees the United States as a “full partner” and will work closely with its ally to ensure that a new diplomatic deal with Iran Does not compromise regional security.

Austin told his host that Washington sees its alliance as “regional security and” strong and solid. “

A two-day visit to Austen began a few days after negotiations began to resume the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. Washington said it offered “very serious” ideas to revive the stalled deal, which Israel strongly opposes.

Austin will meet Netanyahu during the visit, which will include discussions about US arms shipments to Israel in official reports.

Netanyahu has been a vocal critic of the Iranian nuclear deal, which came back during negotiations during the Barack Obama administration.

The Israeli Prime Minister welcomed the withdrawal of former US President Donald Trump from the pact and again imposed sanctions on Tehran, which then renounced many of its obligations under the pact.

‘Accident’

Tehran announced on Saturday that it had begun operating refined centrifuges to enrich uranium.

President Hassan Rouhani inaugurated a series of 164 IR-6 centrifuges for the production of enriched uranium and two test series of 30 IR-5 and 30 IR-6 in a state broadcast of the Iranian uranium enrichment facility at Natraj. TV.

The Fars News Agency reported that an “accident” occurred in Natzan on Sunday, but it did not cause any human or physical harm.

Main case of iran

Al-Jazeera’s Harry Fawcett in West Jerusalem said Iran was high on the agenda discussed during the Austin visit.

“The two issues have very different political priorities on the Iran issue,” Fawcett said.

He said that the Biden government and Iran are determined to return to the nuclear deal under certain conditions, but Israel says there should be no withdrawal.

On Wednesday, Netanyahu said that Israel was not bound by an agreement that would allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons.

The Prime Minister said, “An agreement with Iran that will pave the way for nuclear weapons weapons – which threatens our extinction – will not force us in any way.”

Iran insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

Biden said he was ready to come back to the deal and said he was successful in stopping Iran’s nuclear activities until Washington returned.

However, the US urged Iran to withdraw compliance, while Tehran insisted on an immediate end to all US sanctions and urged both sides to take the first step.

In recent weeks, Israel and Iran have reported the destruction of their ships at sea. Syria accused Israel of launching an airstrike in its territory, where Iranian-backed forces are stationed.
