• Expansion of “CITY OF GOLD” art space proposal north of Essen

Bochum, 26.01.2021. Art breaks barriers and brings people together. These are the goals of the pop-up gallery “Harman” and the art space “CITY OF GOLD”. The housing company Vonovia, which owns 1,400 apartments in Eltingviertel, Essen, is expanding its offerings and providing artists with free space for their work and exhibitions.

Whether painting, sculpture or photography – artists can make free use of the gallery and art space for a while. “This concept is part of our holistic approach to neighborhood development. Creative projects strengthen the neighbor’s solidarity. We not only want to modernize the district in terms of energy, but also to upgrade it culturally. “Harman ‘Gallery and’ CITY OF GOLD ‘art spaces from 2019 are regularly opening their rooms and presenting contemporary art by international artists. Interested residents and neighbors are involved in events. Since the program was well received Tha, we are providing offers and now giving free space to new artists for their work. “

New ideas for “Harman” gallery
Artists Dennis Ogan and Ruth Herberhold have been working in the “Herman” gallery since January 2011. “We use gallery space as a studio and work space,” explains photographer Dennis Ogan. “We do not want to use the space alone, but also give space to other artists for regular exhibitions. If sanctions re-enforce it, we will also include the neighborhood in our projects. “

Ruth Herberhold, photographer and installation artist, says: “It is great that we have this opportunity to work independently. I am currently following an upcycling project in which I rearrange and recycle old items. I am looking forward to the time after the lockdown, when we can invite the neighborhood. I also run once in Gladbeck and now look forward to organizing small cultural events in Essen as well. We would like to thank Vonovia for providing the rooms free of charge and thereby promoting our work. “

Exhibitions in art and art “CITY OF GOLD”
Artists Daniela Risk and Eleonora Arnold and artist Xiaol Zhang have been working in “City of Gold” since December 2019. They are pleased that Vonovia also has until July 31, 2022, Altenessener Str. 77 is expanding this proposal: “We have been offering a sophisticated and much-exhibited program at CITY OF GOLD for over a year and already have a permanent place in the middle. Free art spaces of the city. We are delighted that Vonovia is giving us the opportunity to continue and continue our work in the rooms of the Old Corner Store. ‘
During the current restrictions, “CITY OF GOLD” uses its shop window for an evening video program for residents and passers-by. The artists’ videos are played on a monitor installed in the shop window for eight days and are also available on the social media channels of the arts space.
