The Golden Globe winner “Nomadland” has further improved his chances of winning the Oscar. Director Chloe Zhao’s road film won the Producers Guild of America (PGA) top award on Thursday night. A total of ten feature films were nominated by the US Producers Association, including “Munk”, “Minari” and “Promising Young Women”.

The PGA Award serves as a barometer for the Oscars, which will be awarded on 25 April this year. “Nomaland”, based on the non-fiction book, tells the story of a 60-year-old girl (played by Frances MacDormand), who passes the USA as a modern nomad in a trailer after the death of her husband.

In the television arena, the British royal family series “The Crown” won the top award for best drama series, and the Canadian series “Shits Creek” was the best comic series. The Netflix series “Unconventional”, with Shira Haas in the lead role, staged by German director Maria Schrader, remained undisturbed. Instead, “The Queen’s Gambit” was chosen as the best minarets.

More than 8,000 filmmakers voted on the awards. Hollywood makers’ trophies were awarded as part of a virtual show.
