Kyiv: U2 musicians play in air raid shelter

MAccording to media reports, musicians of Irish rock band U2 made a surprise appearance on Sunday at a subway station in Kyiv, which was being used as a shelter for airstrikes. Frontman Bono and guitarist “The Edge” performed the band’s classics such as the song “Stand by Me”, as seen in videos posted by Ukrainian media. “President Volodymyr Zelensky invited us to play in Kyiv and show our solidarity with the people of Ukraine, and we did,” both musicians wrote on the band’s official Twitter account on Sunday.

The Union news agency wrote that the Irish musician’s visit was unexpected. Taras Topolja of the Ukrainian band Antitilla is said to have performed with them. The U2 management did not initially reveal any further details about the performance.
