“People interested in the Ford location from around the world”

Saarlouis – Two months ago came the embarrassing end and the carmaker’s decision against the Ford plant in Saarluis. Now there is a small ray of hope for the employees.

And economics minister Jürgen Barke (59, SPD) sees it. He adds: “We have interested parties coming from all over the world.” Above all, plants that could take over from other car makers, who still have guaranteed space until 2025.

Some of the roughly 5,000 Ford employees in Saarlouis can expect to produce electric cars for another brand in the future. Because aspiring companies are particularly interested in the potential of employees: “They ask: Are the good people still out there? Are you motivated? Are they sticking to it?” Barke says.

According to Barke, there would be no solution “completely without Ford”, as the carmaker owns the site. So now you sit down at a table with Ford management. The results are to be included in the Council of Ministers resolution on 6 September.

Bark wants to keep the pace going. The decision should be made this year.

An investor needs at least two years to launch a new product and organize a ramp-up at the Saarluis plant.
