Canada will keep pressure on Russia until Crimea regains Ukraine

A correspondent for Ukraine told that Canada will not change its policy of pressure on Russia until Russia returns Crimea to Ukraine.

“Our commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine is strong. We will continue to pressure Russia until it respects sovereignty, territorial integrity and international law.

He added that Canada supports the Crimean platform’s initiative “which is said to provide a long-term vision for the annexation and reinvestment of Crimea”.

“Canada reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Ukraine, who continue their relentless fight for their fundamental rights and freedom,” he said.

On Friday, a high-level virtual meeting was held at the United Nations under the formula “Appia” on the topic “Crimea: 7 years of violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.

On 26 February, Ukraine marked the day of resistance against the annexation of the autonomous republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

That day a mass rally against the efforts to separate Crimea from Ukraine in front of the Parliament House of Crimea took place in Simferopol, organized by the Majlis of Crimea Tatar. Since then, 26 February has become a symbol of resistance to the occupation of Ukraine, which has been going on for seven years.

As reported by Ukrinform, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky presented the concept of the Crimean Forum to the United Nations on 23 September and invited international partners to join the initiative to unite efforts to liberate Crimea. During the Ukraine-EU summit on 6 October, the European Union confirmed its readiness for such an initiative. Ukraine is currently agreeing on this issue at the level of national governments of EU countries.

The Crimea Forum introduced a new consultation and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to increase the effectiveness of international response to the annexation of Crimea by Ukraine, response to security challenges, international pressure on Russia and further human rights violations. The main objective – the liberation of Crimea and their return to Ukraine.

The platform is expected to function at several levels: heads of state and government; foreign Minister; In the dimension of mutual cooperation and in the format of a network of experts.
