Canada's use of human rights as a political tool at the United Nations is doomed to failure

The spread of propaganda by Canada to discredit China at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is nothing more than the use of human rights as a political tool and is doomed to failure. This was stated by Liu Yuyin, spokesman for the Chinese representation at the United Nations Office in Geneva on Thursday.

Liu said, “For political reasons, a small group of Western countries, including Canada, are once again trying to spread propaganda and lies to harm China in the Human Rights Council.” This is nothing but a repetition of his usual trick of using human rights as a political tool, which the international community must reject and doomed to fail. “

He said the Chinese government is committed to the welfare of its people, including people of all races, in Xinjiang, as it sees the pursuit of a better life as its goal. “With tireless efforts, Xinjiang has made remarkable achievements in the fields of economic and social development and human rights. At present, Xinjiang has social stability, peace and economic prosperity. People there lead a safe and comfortable life.” According to Liu, Xinjiang eradicated absolute poverty in 2020 after lifting more than 3 million people out of poverty in the region for the first time in history.

Ahead of the 47th regular session of the UNHRC, which will take place from 21 June to 13 July, Canada leads the way in making a joint statement relating to Xinjiang in an interactive dialogue on the Annual Report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
