German way of playing for third place

Germany started well in the World Cup and showed strong performances against Italy, Norway and Canada in the preliminary round. After this, however, there were three narrow losses (2: 3 against Kazakhstan, 1: 2 against Finland and 0: 2 against the USA). It was only in the last group game that Söderholm’s defenders were able to win again against Latvia.

In the quarter-finals, after a thriller, Germany won only against Switzerland in a penalty shoot-out, followed by a dramatic defeat against Finland in the semi-finals.
