Today, the German national team begins preparations for the ice hockey world championship in Finland, which will take place in Finland from 13 to 29 May. The DEB team is spending the first phase of World Cup preparations in Chomutov, Czech Republic. There are five training sessions and two friendly matches against the Czech Republic on Thursday, 14 April at 5 pm (live on Sport 1 and Magenta Sport) and Friday 15 April at 3 pm (live on Magenta Sport).

Five professionals from ERC Ingolstadt are participating and are looking to recommend themselves for a place in the team at the World Championships. In addition to the Olympic participants Daniel Pieta and Fabio Wagner, Mirko Hofflin, who was able to record his only World Cup participation in 2018, and youngsters Samuel Soramiz and Leon Hüttel were named by national coach Tony Soderholm.

“The fact that we have the largest contingent in the current DEB team with five players is a great honor for us as a club as well as a recognition for the good performance these five showed with us last season. The reward is there. We wish him every success with the national team and hope to have as many of him in the German jersey as possible at the World Cup in May,” said sporting director Larry Mitchell.

After the friendship in the Czech Republic, the DEB team is heading to Rosenheim next Tuesday for a shorter training camp and more friendships. Fine-tuning before the start of the tournament then takes place in the third and fourth stages of preparation in Dresden (26 April – 30 April) and Schwenningen (5 May – 8 May). All preparatory games will be broadcast by Magenta Sport. Sport 1 shows four games live on free TV.

In Group A of the preliminary round, the German team will take on World Cup winners Canada, Switzerland, Olympic bronze medalists Slovakia, Denmark, Kazakhstan, Italy and France. The team coached by national coach Soderholm will play against Canada on May 13 at 7:20 pm.
