Greta Thunberg's statue in Great Britain causes controversy at the university

Despite criticism from students, a University of England has a statue of a climate activist this week Greta Thunberg got to know. The bronze sculpture shows him with long braided hair and a protruding arm.

According to the University of Winchester, it is the first life-size statue of an 18-year-old swede ever built in the world. “Greta is a young woman who, despite difficulties in her life, has become one of the world’s leading environmental activists,” said one University Communication. “As a university for sustainability, we are proud to honor this inspiring woman as such.”

The student organization University and College Association criticized the initiative as a pure prestige project. However, this criticism is clearly not directed against Thunberg, who is supported in his role in the fight against climate change, it stated in a Twitter Published opinion.

£ 24,000 should have been used better to cut costs and prevent job cuts, the students argued.

The university disagreed: this money came from a pot to finance buildings and could not be used for other purposes.
