All passengers are on board. Flight 438 from Iberia is scheduled to take off from Madrid in five minutes – one of the pilots says goodbye to everyone and leaves the Airbus A319. Now Samuel Pinone explains why he almost threw his head over heels from the cockpit – and the reason is sweet as sugar.

The pilot came out of the plane because he is going to be a father sooner than expected

Every day at 15:55 a Spanish domestic flight IB 438 departs from Madrid to Bilbao. On 20 April, Samuel Pinnon is one of two pilots in the cockpit. But his call comes just before this day is gone – he’ll become a father at any moment. Their daughter Rafaela is born earlier than expected. Pilot Pinon apparently quickly advises his airline, which is looking for a replacement pilot immediately. In fact, he is right there, occupying the vacant pilot’s seat – and the plane lands a few minutes late at its destination in Bilbao.

At that time, Samuel is already in the hospital awaiting the birth of his daughter. And what if there was no backup pilot? “Otherwise, I would certainly have taken flight,” reports Pinone on his Twitter account. The new dad received a lot of accolades for his action on the Twitter platform.

“I apologize to the passengers of Flight IB438,” the pilot wrote on Twitter. Pilot’s tweet has nearly 10,000 likes: “Thank you for all the affection. I would like to answer you personally, as you deserve, but I hope you will forgive me: for the time being my attention is Rafaella and her mother.” is on”, Pilot Piñón congratulates the Internet community.

Do Airlines Always Have Reserve Crew?

Was it really a coincidence that the airline Iberia had a replacement pilot on standby, so to speak? Not! Almost every airline has so-called standby crew. If there is a delay, a crew member becomes ill or other problems occur, airlines activate pilots and/or cabin crew members to prevent cancellations as much as possible. Some of these crew members are waiting at the airport and therefore can step in immediately. However, it is very rare for a replacement pilot to be called in because a colleague is going to be a father. (RTL.news Research/ Twitter/Faro de Vigo)
