The day after the election in the Czech Republic, President Milos Zeman was admitted to the military hospital in Prague. According to his personal doctor, he is in the Intensive Care Unit. The health condition of the 77-year-old was estimated earlier.

He cannot give any information about the diagnosis yet. The reason for inpatient admission is complications with a chronic disease that Zeman is already being treated for, Zavoral said.
The state of health of the 77-year-old head of state was estimated earlier. Little is known officially, Czech media are reporting serious liver problems. According to the presidential office, he spent eight days in the hospital last month.
Zeman’s hospital admission came a day after parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic and a meeting with Prime Minister Lady Babis on Sunday morning, who had lost the election. According to the constitution, the President has to propose a candidate to the Parliament for the post of head of government.
Babis lost his official majority in the parliamentary elections. After almost all electoral districts were counted on Saturday evening, a group of conservative and liberal opposition parties attempting to replace Babis and his populist party ANO were clearly ahead.
However, President Zeman, who appoints the prime minister according to the constitution, plays an important role. He had announced that he would give the mandate of the government to the strongest party. That was again ANO von Babis, while the opposition group is a coalition of several parties.
