Munich is the third largest city in Germany and the second most important center for Lufthansa. And so it only makes sense that a German airline also names an aircraft after the Bavarian capital – and has been for more than 60 years. Named a Boeing 707 in 1960, a Douglas DC-10 in 1970, a Boeing 747-200 in 1983, and then a 747-400. An Airbus A380 has been named Munich since 2011.

But Lufthansa is discontinuing all its superjumbo, And so the A380 registration with the D-AIMB disappears. But the airline is looking after a successor. It will get another Airbus A350-900 in February. And his name will be Munich, as he said on Wednesday (22 December). From April, he will travel to destinations like Bangkok, Rio de Janeiro and San Diego.
