HAMBURG (DPA) – Sevens selection from the German Rugby Association finished ninth at the World Series tournament in Vancouver, Canada. At the end of the tournament, national coach Damien McGrath’s team secured the highest victory of the event with a 66–0 victory over Jamaica.
Twelve years after their final appearance at World Series level, the German men began with defeats against hosts Canada (5:24) and USA (7:26). This was followed by victories against Chile (36:12), Mexico (41:0) and Jamaica. “It was a good end to a tournament that started off so hard for us,” McGrath said.
The next World Series tournament of the Olympic rugby edition will take place a week later in Edmonton, Canada. Nevertheless, the German selection is included. Damien McGrath hopes “we can present ourselves better there”.
