In the latest episode of “Beauty and the Nerd”, a participant allows herself to physically attack one of the “beauties”. ProSieben commented during the show on Thursday evening that this behavior towards women is not a minor offense and allows the contestants to explain the situation themselves.
It feels original at first. At least more original than other Trash TV shows. You take a group of “nerds” and put them in a group housing with a group of “beauties”. A “nerd” and a “beauty” must team up to win the show in the end. Something may arise from this, as opposites are known to attract or repel each other – who knows. Anyway, it could be interesting.
In practice, however, “beauty and stupid“Again a little less original, because that’s the way the show works. A troupe as heterogeneous in character as possible is given a very vague goal that has to be achieved in a competition.
But the contest, that is, the question of who wins, is completely unimportant, because basically it’s just about the fact that as much social relic takes place between the first and last episodes.
How the people involved achieve this goal is initially up to them, but of course the production company Endemolshine Germany throws some escalation catalysts at the show to make it noisier. Sports, for example, unexpected and, if necessary, decidedly classic: alcohol. It certainly could be good in terms of entertainment, but also not, as episode two should show on Thursday evenings.
Marcus about Julian: “He just came in super pushy”
It begins with the lost couple from the previous episode, Helena and Volker having to move out, which makes candidate Cao cry. In the opinion of her beauty colleagues, her partner Alex isn’t worried enough about this. For example, Cecilia says, “It’s freezing cold, and the cut also gives this impression. It’s interesting from a dramatic standpoint because it will be partly responsible for Alex’s voluntary departure in the episode.”
Pure humanity is already at work here, but it has to be forced elsewhere. Because in episode two a new couple enters the “Beauty and the Nerd” phase, only this time the “nerd” is a woman named Teresa and “Beauty” is a man named Julian. And his first impression, when he walked into Villa with a bare upper body and victory slogans, didn’t go down well with everyone: “He just came in super pushy,” says Marcus.
Julian really should know better when it comes to social interaction, after all, he claims to be a “dating coach for women” profession. Sounds like a fantasy job, but the information should be important later. First, Julian lets the others know that the winner has gone with him and shows in the first statement what more can be expected of him intellectually: “If you don’t look good, it’s hard.” Difficult, to put it as euphemistically as possible, should only be Julianne’s behavior during a party.
“Beauty and the Nerd”: Julian is Domineering
In a champagne shower, he disapprovesly meets Meik with foam in his eyes. So Julian clearly wants to take her to the bathroom so she can wash her eyes there. But before that happens, fade ProSieben A hint: “In the following scenes a participant crosses boundaries and becomes abusive. We want to point out: abusive behavior toward women is not a minor offense. We show the scene after consulting with Meike anyway. Why? The following debate is too much and Mike important.” What happened?
Once in the bathroom, Julien uses the fact that Mike can’t see anything to give her a kiss. “Are you nuts?” Meike clearly backs away in surprise. “I’m not a person who rubs reactively at anyone. And then I was close to it”, Meik later explained his view of the situation, which Julian apparently perceived very differently: ” It was just moments. I thought like: Hey, why not? Nice.”
Yes, why not? Why shouldn’t you just kiss a woman at the mouth who can’t defend herself because she can’t see anything, even if she feels good to you personally? Counter question: Why do you still have to convince a guy in 2021 and why don’t you do it after an intense #metoo debate?
A statement from ProSieben: at least that
After the incident became known, there was great disapproval in the group, but it was mainly Christian and Alexandra who were furious about the kiss: “What she did is unfair,” explains Christian in a statement, positioning Mike himself. Wanted “don’t open a barrel”. It’s up to Alexandra to open this keg anyway, because when the group applauds Julian as he apologizes in front of everyone, the applause only makes things worse for him.
“I don’t think the whole situation is good. Then you get the applause. This is what it looks like in our society: The guy fucks up and in the end he’s still great because he apologised,” explains Alexandra Julian the reason for his anger. At some point the cut ends the discussion and the off-speaker may announce: “Now that all is well, the next challenge can be played.”
Now, of course, one can only speculate as to what has happened in the production company and ProSieben about how to deal with this situation and discuss whether it was justified.
Also, it says that the situation was dealt with at all and that the whole thing was not broadcast without comment. Apparently, after the recent similar garbage TV show spitting and homophobia scandals, he learned here. At least he.
