Summer continues in Greece

Greece is suffering from extreme temperatures: on the holiday island of Rhodes, firefighters fought a major fire on Sunday, and entire villages had to be evacuated. There is no end to summer at the moment.

The scorching heat continues to wreak havoc in Greece. The temperature of the Meteorological Department is expected to be around 44 degrees on Monday and for the whole week. Due to severe drought and strong winds on Holiday Island in Rhodes, the massive fire that broke out on Sunday was out of control, as announced by the fire brigade on Monday morning.

Hotel facilities are on rodos Not yet affected by the fire and heavy smoke. The civil service, however, ordered the evacuation of three villages west of the island’s capital. On Sunday evening, power went out temporarily across large parts of Holiday Island. With the first light of the day, firefighters and helicopters were used to douse the fire, state television (ERT) reported.

Air conditioning systems put pressure on the energy system

The Ministry of Power called upon all citizens not to set the air conditioning to too low a temperature. “26 degrees no more,” said the Department of Energy. The performance of the nation’s energy system is being put to the test due to the prolonged heat and air conditioning systems running at full speed.

It was unclear when the heat would subside. Some meteorologists feared that the high temperature could persist for two weeks.
