The famous Darwinian arch has collapsed off the coast of the Galápagos Islands. Ecuador’s environment ministry called the collapse “as a result of natural erosion” on Monday (local time). Only two columns of the former Rock Arch could be seen in the photographs published by the Authority.

The Rock Arch was named after the naturalist Charles Darwin

The reef lies north of the archipelago and is later Famous British explorer named Charles Darwin. The unique flora and fauna of the islands inspired Darwin to develop his theory of evolution. The region is also considered a major place for diving.

The Galápagos Islands is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The protected archipelago is about a thousand kilometers from the coast Ecuador. It is named after the native Galápagos giant turtles. (AFP / MGB)
