ATP Cup: Russia dominates, Germany celebrates first win

Russia remains the measure of all things in Group B at the ATP Cup in Sydney.

Daniil Medvedev defeated Alex de Minaur 6: 4, 6: 2. Farmer Roman Safiulin slams Jamie Duckworth 7:6(6), 6:4. In doubles, Medvedev / Safiulin defeated local heroes Pearce / Saville 7: 6 (7), 3: 6, 10: 6. Russia is ahead of a duel with Italy on Thursday.

Canada offers exciting positions in Group C: The North Americans beat Great Britain 2–1. For the British, Daniil Evans got the only points 6: 4, 6: 4 against Denis Shapovalov. Felix Auger-Aliasime defeated Cameron Nori 7: 6 (4), 6: 3. Canadian Doubles Auger-Aliasime/Shapovalov defeated Jamie Murray/Salibri 6:4, 6:1.

Germany won for the first time

Meanwhile, Germany celebrates its first victory of the tournament. The Davis Cup semifinalists beat USA 2–1.

Jan-Lenard Struff defeated John Isner in three sets 7:6 (7), 4:6, 7:5. Olympic champion Alexander Zverev defeated Taylor Fritz 6: 4, 6: 4. The upcoming double could be won by the American team Fritz / Isner against Kravitz / Puetz 6: 0, 6: 3.

This meant that the Germans, who lost 2–1 to Great Britain in the first round, had a chance for promotion to Group C. Despite the defeat, the United States finished first due to a best match ratio of 4–2, with Great Britain having a better direct comparison to runners-up Germany in the group. Canada are currently in last place due to the worst match ratio, but they still have every chance of reaching the semi-finals. Great Britain will face the USA on the last day of the match, while Germany will face Canada.

In Group B, France had to admit defeat after a 3–0 loss against Italy. “Equipe Tricolor” is the last with two defeats and no chances of it going forward. Italy, on the other hand, can still dream of reaching the semi-finals with a balanced record of wins and losses before the decisive duel against Russia.

Matteo Berrettini defeated Ugo Humbert 6: 4, 7: 6 (6), Yannick Sinner defeated Arthur Rinderknecht 6: 3, 7: 6 (3). The couple decides for themselves against Martin/Roger-Veselin, Berrettini/Sinner 6:3, (7) 6:7, 10:8. The day of the second match ended on Tuesday with a duel between Russia and Australia.
