Climate change record in Canada: British Columbia reports 22.5 degrees in winter - Panorama - Gesellschaft

A region in western Canada has set a new record for winter temperatures. The city of Penticton, located in the center of British Columbia province, recorded a maximum temperature of 22.5 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. “It’s a record, or rather, it’s breaking a record,” said Armel Castellan, a meteorologist with the Environment Canada Weather Agency for AFP news agency.

Penticton is a few hundred kilometers southeast of Lytton. Litton attracted international attention after breaking a new Canadian heat record of 49.6 °C in the summer that killed at least two residents before a fire broke out. The historic heat wave caused by climate change has killed hundreds across the province.

In mid-November, heavy rains in the province caused devastating floods, which officials have linked to climate change. (AFP)
