Firefox Offers Unlimited Free VPN Access for the Summer

Mozilla Temporarily Removes Data Cap on Firefox’s Built-In VPN Service

Mozilla is expanding access to its built-in Firefox VPN service for the summer, temporarily lifting the usual monthly data limit for users worldwide. The move gives Firefox users unrestricted VPN access until Aug. 31, a change aimed at travellers and privacy-conscious internet users during the busy summer season.

The browser’s integrated VPN feature, first introduced earlier this year, normally includes a free monthly bandwidth cap of 50 GB. Under the new promotion, users can browse without any usage restrictions for the remainder of the summer.

The unlimited access period began immediately following Mozilla’s announcement on June 11.

Free VPN Access Available Through Aug. 31

Mozilla said Firefox users will be able to connect to VPN servers in 28 countries during the promotional period. The service is integrated directly into the browser, allowing users to secure their internet traffic without installing separate software.

The company noted that Firefox automatically selects the fastest available server based on the user’s location. However, users can also manually choose another country if they want to access region-specific content or maintain privacy while travelling.

For Canadians travelling internationally this summer — whether heading to the United States, Europe, or elsewhere — the feature may help maintain access to familiar online services while adding an extra layer of protection on public Wi-Fi networks commonly found in airports, hotels, and cafés.

Mozilla Expands Focus on Privacy Features

Mozilla has continued positioning Firefox as a privacy-focused alternative in the competitive browser market. The company has recently expanded several security and AI-related features as it works to differentiate itself from larger rivals such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

The temporary removal of the VPN cap follows a broader industry trend in which technology companies are placing greater emphasis on online privacy tools and encrypted browsing services.

VPNs, or virtual private networks, help encrypt internet traffic and can mask a user’s location by routing connections through remote servers. They are commonly used to improve online privacy, secure public internet connections, and access content while travelling abroad.

Monthly Limits Return in September

Mozilla confirmed that the unlimited VPN access is only temporary. Beginning Sept. 1, Firefox’s standard free-tier restrictions will return, including the 50 GB monthly bandwidth limit.

The company has not indicated whether similar promotional offers could return later in the year.

Firefox introduced the built-in VPN option in March as part of its broader effort to simplify privacy tools directly within the browser experience, reducing the need for third-party extensions or standalone applications.

A Short-Term Boost for Firefox Users

The summer promotion gives Firefox users a temporary opportunity to use an unrestricted VPN service without additional cost. With online privacy concerns continuing to grow and international travel increasing during the summer months, the feature may appeal to users looking for added security and flexibility while browsing online.
