Google is expanding the value of its paid artificial intelligence subscriptions by adding premium Google Colab benefits, giving subscribers access to enhanced cloud computing resources without requiring a separate Colab plan.
The change could appeal to Canadian developers, students, researchers and other users who rely on browser-based Python tools or Google’s growing range of AI services.
Google AI Plans Now Include Colab Perks
Google has announced that its paid AI subscriptions now include premium benefits for Google Colab, the company’s cloud-based platform for writing and running Python code.
Colab operates through a web browser and provides access to computing resources such as graphics processing units (GPUs) and tensor processing units (TPUs). Because the computing environment is hosted in the cloud, users can run code without installing development software directly on their computers.
Previously, users seeking additional Colab resources could purchase standalone subscriptions. Colab Pro costs $9.99 per month, while the higher-tier Pro+ subscription costs $49.99 per month.
By extending Colab benefits to its AI subscriptions, Google is making some of those computing resources available through plans starting at $4.99 per month.
AI Ultra Subscribers Receive Additional Computing Benefits
The level of Colab access varies depending on the Google AI subscription.
Subscribers to Google AI Ultra receive additional features, including access to premium GPUs and uninterrupted background execution. Background execution can be particularly useful for workloads that take longer to complete because processes can continue running without requiring users to keep an active browser session open.
The integration further broadens Google’s strategy of bundling AI features with benefits across its wider product ecosystem. Paid AI subscriptions already provide increased access to Google’s more capable AI models, along with other services and cloud storage options.

How Subscribers Can Activate Google Colab Benefits
Users who want to access the new benefits through their Google AI subscription can open the Colab paid products section and select the option to upgrade through Google One.
Once the eligible Google AI subscription is confirmed, the Colab benefits should be applied automatically. Users need to make sure the same Google account is being used for both services.
Subscription benefits can be checked within Google Colab by navigating to Settings and then Subscription.
Google says the expanded benefits are being introduced across countries where Colab is supported. The company cautions that the rollout may take several weeks, meaning some eligible subscribers may not immediately see the additional features in their accounts.
Free AI Trials Are Not Eligible
The Colab benefits are restricted to customers with paid Google AI subscriptions.
Users accessing a Google AI plan through a free trial are not eligible for the premium Colab benefits during the trial period.
The distinction means users considering a subscription primarily for additional computing resources will need an active paid membership before those benefits become available.
