King Carl Gustaf The Swedish Reichstag (the so-called Riksdag) opened in Stockholm in 2021/2022, beginning the new parliamentary year. This act is performed by the emperor year after year. The opening ceremony, which is televised, traditionally begins with the parliamentarians singing the King’s Song, written in 1844. Some of them remained silent and thus expressed their opposition to the monarchy, as the newspaper “Svensk Dam” reports.
As the newspaper writes, the hymn is traditionally sung in honor of the emperor and his family. But among others, Centrepartite MP Alireza Akhondi, a bourgeois-liberal party that campaigns for agriculture with a green profile, and Ola Möller, a member of the Swedish Social Democratic Workers’ Party, have decided not to sing along. . And the newspaper has already publicly announced to do this.
As it is also said, the king showed nothing in his inaugural speech. Accordingly, most of the MPs also sang along with Raja’s song at the beginning of the programme, as usual.
