General Motors is to recall some of its electric cars. Apparently there are production errors in the batteries. A specific model is affected.
US automaker General Motors is recalling more than 70,000 other Chevrolet Bolt electric cars due to the risk of fire. The recall relates to two production errors in the electric battery, as the company announced on Friday. The additional cost is estimated at $1 billion.
These are in addition to the $812 million cost that is expected from the first recall in July. The first recall affected 69,000 cars worldwide from the 2017-2019 model year, including 51,000 in the USA. Two cars had caught fire in connection with a background fault. Now the 2020-2022 and 2019 models are to be recalled that have not yet been affected by the first recall. It affects 73,000 cars in the US and Canada.
first memory of last year
In November of last year, GM had already begun a recall campaign for the Chevrolet Bolt. The background was a fire hazard even then.
The US automaker is aiming for a leadership role in e-mobility. In June, the group raised its investment plan by 30 percent to US$35 billion (29.76 billion euros) for the period up to 2025. The main objective is to advance the development of e-vehicles and technologies related to autonomous driving.
