Things escalated around Islamophobic rally in Sweden

An ultra-right-wing group is walking through Swedish cities and wants to burn the Qur’an every now and then. It calls on counter-protesters to plan. According to their own statements, police fired warning shots at Norköping – killing three people. They were taken to the hospital.

In Sweden, after a meeting of the far-right group Stram Kurs, counter-protesters again rioted. In Norrköping, police said they fired warning shots on Sunday. Police said three people were apparently injured after being hit by the ricochet. According to police, a bus, a car and a dustbin were set on fire in Malmö.

According to police, three of the Norköping wounded were taken to hospital and taken into custody as a precaution, as they are suspected of a crime.

The protest was triggered by a meeting of the anti-Islamic and anti-immigrant group Straum Kurs, led by politician and lawyer Rasmus Paludan. It is currently passing through various Swedish cities and holding meetings there, in which one Quran is to be burned at a time. There have been many clashes between the police and the protestors.

Protests in many cities

A Straum Kurs rally on Saturday was moved from Landskron in southern Sweden to a parking lot in the neighboring city of Malmö to avoid riots. Nevertheless, protests broke out in different parts of Malmö, with rioters pelting stones at the police. According to a spokesman, the police officer was not injured. However, there were several reports of sabotage.

In Norrköping, 150 protesters took to the streets on Sunday against Strom Kurs. According to police, police officers were pelted with stones and cars were set on fire. Police arrested four protesters.

In similar clashes in Linköping city, ten people were hospitalized with minor injuries, TT news agency reported, citing health officials.
