Bad Brücknau’s Maximilian Jagger became the Vice World Champion in the time trial in the T2 category at the Para World Championships in Bai Comu, Canada, and missed out on a silver medal in the road race. The 22-year-old was in Canada with Para-Team Germany in early August and had previously participated in the World Cup in Quebec. After returning to Germany, he says, “I am very satisfied with my performance.”
In the World Championship time trial, he completed two laps in 34:22.03 minutes and finished second, 46 seconds behind Belgian Tim Selene. “I gave everything. Tim Seelen was unbeatable for me that day,” said Sinstadter about his silver medal in the nearly 20-kilometer circuit.
Street race took place only two days later. From the very beginning, Jagger was in the lead group with his teammate Beno Schmidt. After about 40 kilometres, he slipped his left hand off the handlebar during the final sprint and failed to win the silver with only 0.01 seconds. “I’m more than happy with third place,” said the Cottbus resident, who was by choice, not at all offended.
At the World Cup in Quebec a week ago, the 22-year-old also finished first in the time trial followed by second in the road race. Good preparation for the World Cup. Two weeks in Canada was a difficult but eventful journey, the para-athlete reports. The plane was already overbooked on an outbound flight from Frankfurt to Montreal and the German delegation had to spend an unplanned night in Frankfurt to take off the next day. After the World Cup, the bus took us to Bai Komu, the World Cup site. The bus ride, which was completed in just two hours on a domestic flight in 2019, took about ten hours this year.
Maximilian Jagger is now back at Cottbus and school will resume for him on Monday. Next year he will take his vocational diploma and after a year of social service he wants to study in Potsdam. He has been practicing the sport since 2018 and is currently the current European Champion and a two-time German Champion.
