“Vole Kane” Presenter Apologizes for the Z-Word

Florian Weiss

ZDF presenter Florian Weiss, who presented the service magazine “Volle Cane”, had to apologize for the verbal slip on Tuesday. Similar to “Punkt 12” presenter Katja Burkard a few weeks ago, she said the Z word. In the edition of “Vole Cane”, broadcast live on ZDF from 9:05 a.m., renowned architect van Bo le-Mentzel, a guest at the breakfast table set up in the studio as part of a themed week about living Were.

The 44-year-old from Laos reports on the ‘van life’ trend, which is not only about technical issues, but also about social issues. It’s also about how society sees you if you leave your apartment to live in a car, the architect said. Moderator Weiss intervened: “Are you still a normal citizen or are you already a Z…?” Van Bo Le-Menzel reacted quickly, saying: “Oh, I wouldn’t say the Z-word like that.”

During the program, Weiss apologized for the choice of words. The ZDF Press Office also mentions this upon request to DWDL.de. The moderator “apologized for the choice of words and expressed regret should they have hurt the feelings of Sinti and Roma.” This year saw, among other things, a WDR talk with inappropriate wording. The “last example” got lost in the discussion of whether it was necessary to rename “Gypsy Sauce”. Among other things, it was comedian Anissa Amani who vehemently criticized the show’s guest selection at the time – and soon after showed how to do it better. Your web talk “The Best Instance” was awarded the Grimm Online Award among other things.

The ZDF magazine “Vole Kanne”, which runs from Monday to Friday at 9:05 a.m. for 90 minutes, has various hosts, Weiss being one of them. The Ulm-born, who has also been radio host for private broadcaster Anten Bayern for two decades, has been involved in “Volle Cann” for over 15 years, for example as he tells Curiosity in the “Know it all” section. Since the end of 2020, he has also been regularly seen as the presenter of the program – in a sense, he followed in the footsteps of Ingo Nomsen, who conducted the previous year after two decades.
