WhatsApp Trick: How You Can Secretly “Leave” a Chat Group

WhatsApp groups are often used, but you don’t want to be a part of the group forever. With one trick, you can also remove yourself from unknown chats.

Sometimes, however, you unintentionally join a WhatsApp group and don’t want to offend other users when you leave the group. The popular messenger provides in its principles, however, that members of a group are informed about the activities of other participants. Thus, when a user leaves, the rest of the group is shown that this person has left the group. However, there is a trick you can use to bypass this feature.

Officially, WhatsApp does not provide an option to leave group chats “in secret”. However, users can bypass the basic settings with a simple trick in which they simply mute the group.

If notifications for this WhatsApp group are muted, messages from group members will still appear in the group, but you will no longer hear them. Because if notifications are muted, the smartphone no longer rings or vibrates for each group message and the message is no longer displayed on the screen.

WhatsApp: How to mute group notifications

To deactivate a group notification on WhatsApp, tap the group name at the top of the screen in a chat. Android users can then select the “Always” option under “Mute Notifications”. Apple users select the “Always” option under the “Mute” item.

Users can now simply see how many unread messages have been received in a group chat when they open WhatsApp. If that’s even more so for you, you can work around it too with a simple trick and remove the chat from the WhatsApp list.

Remove WhatsApp group from chat list: This is how it works “secretly”

If you want to remove WhatsApp group from chat list, you should move it to archive. To do this, long tap the group in the chat list on WhatsApp. With Android it is marked with a little green tick next to the group picture, with Apple a list appears with various options.

Then tap the “Archive” symbol (for Android) or “Archive” in the list (for Apple) in the upper-right corner of WhatsApp. So the chat is moved to the archive. Finally, in the WhatsApp settings, under the “Chats” and “Archived chats” option, the “Leave chats to archive” control should be activated.

Users cannot leave the WhatsApp group, but it disappears and becomes invisible in the archive. With this trick, users also keep the back door open to be active again in the group if needed.
