WWE Friday Night SmackDown #1145
Ort: Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
First aired on July 30, 2021
The show has been re-opened by John Cena. However, before he can say anything, let’s take a look at last week and the events between Cena, Roman Reigns, Finn Balor and the excellent Paul Heyman. Cena finally welcomes the audience to Friday Night SmackDown! Roman Reigns will sign a contract against Finn Balor for a SummerSlam match today. With all due respect to Balor, this only proves that the Reigns are scared. All the reasons why Reigns declined Cena’s challenge would be hypocritical. Because asking Cena to replace would be like asking Stone Cold or The Rock to come back to WWE as a different person. Such stars need not be recognized as tribal chiefs. But Reigns has to reinvent and reinvent himself every two years as he always bore the audience. Reigns rejected him not because he hadn’t changed his look, but out of fear of how he might have seen Reigns at SummerSlam. Cena wants to be celebrated, but is interrupted by a seedy Baron Corbin. The audience greets him with “You sock” slogans, while Cena says they don’t even recognize him. Corbyn says he is desperate and that his life is falling apart. He was unable to work due to injury last week. His wife left him and took the children with her. So he asks Cena for help. He asks the audience if he should help him, eventually giving Corbin some bills. But he is unsatisfied, would love to play a role in a movie and is generally very ungrateful. Corbin describes Cena as a selfish person and a “Hollywood sellout”. But Cena has something else in store for Corbin: an attitude adjustment!
Match Flow: A review of the series is shown by The Usos, who have recently been able to hold the upper hand against Mysterio and win the Tag Team Titles once again.
Rey Mysterio warms up backstage for his match against Jimmy Uso. Dominic promises to keep an eye on JE. Ray tells him to keep the other one over himself, as the old man still has a few tricks up his sleeve.
Rey Mysterio (w/ Dominic Mysterio) won via pin after a rollup against Jimmy Uso (w/ Jey Uso).
Match Time: 08:09
– Dominic used the tricks of the Usos, which he won over the past two weeks and thus helped his father to the victory.
A look back at last week shows when there were two matches in one celebration, with among other things Bianca Belair defending her title against Carmella.
Belair then makes his way into the ring. There he is interviewed by Kayla Braxton after the ad. First, she congratulates her on being the SmackDown Women’s Champion for 100 days and wants to know how she gets to the next 100 days. Belair feels happy, and the audience celebrates him too. He is happy to finally be back in front of the audience with the title. He is interrupted by Carmella. She congratulates him very sarcastically, as he once held the title for 130 days and is seeking another chance at the belt. She makes some more excuses about why she lost last week. Next out comes Zelina Vega, who, after all her successes since her return, finds herself in a position to challenge Belair and describes herself in all seriousness as a “rising star”. No one deserved it more than him. Belair accepts the challenge, Zelina Vega actually has a championship match. Carmella and Vega launch an attack on Belair, Sasha Banks vaults! It’s boss time for the first time since WrestleMania. She hugs Bianca Belair in the ring, who is astonished by Banks’ behavior.
Take another look at RAW two weeks ago, when Reginald crowned himself the 24/7 Title Holder. He will defend the title after the next ad, but will be interviewed beforehand. “Reggie” does not yet know who his opponent will be, but he is happy that the match will take place in the ring, because he is already so mad and sees potential opponents everywhere.
Everything looks like Otis is the challenger, but it makes it clear that Chad Gable is the opponent. Then two Reginald attacks before the match started.
Reggie won via DQ against Chad Gable (w/ Otis) after Otis interfered in the match.
Match Time: 01:35
Sonya Deville meets Adam Pearce and says he has a great main event. Carmella & Zelina Vega vs Sasha Banks & Bianca Belair. But first: Balor and Reigns signing the contract. And before that: advertising. When everyone has finally arrived in the ring and Reigns’ chair is on top of the table, things can start. But Reigns first grabs one of the three microphones there. There he says that Cena put himself far above Balor with his statements. But he sees it differently, considering Balor worthy of taking the title. But Balor should think twice. If he signs the contract, Reigns will beat him straight in NXT. Balor is unimpressed and looks forward to returning to NXT with the Universal Championship. Baron Corbin suddenly appears, throws Balor out of the ring, grabs the contract and tries to sign it, but is stopped by John Cena. Heyman, Reigns, Pearce and the Devil watch in shock as Cena suddenly signs the contract. Commentators are confused about whether this agreement is now even legally valid.
Heyman, Pierce and the Devil are backstage. Heyman wants to know what happens to the match at SummerSlam. The Devil and Pearce don’t understand the excitement, the match at SummerSlam will be Cena vs. Reigns. Heyman is about to explode.
6-Men Tag Team Match
Big E, Cesaro and King Nakamura (w/ Rick Booges) won via pin from Nakamura to Crew after Kinshasa against Dirty Dogs (Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode) and Apollo Crew (w/ Commander Aziz).
Match Time: 06:45
– The king appeared today without a crown.
– Pat McAfee was once again so infatuated with Nakamura’s entrance music that he stood at the commentator’s table and conducted the audience, who sang a little further.
– Boogs hit some cords on the outside, resulting in a huge brawl in front of the desk. This distracted the crew and marked the beginning of the finale.
Next Review: The events surrounding Edge and Seth Rollins are discussed.
Edge also celebrates his entry into the hall with great enthusiasm, before the next commercial goes on. But then Seth Rollins is in the ring, who beat Ed up during a commercial. In the ring, Rollins is beside himself and is fed up with Edge, who is taking everything from him, every chance for the title and match against Reigns. To prove it, he has a video, which of course is full of flashbacks. Rollins then said that he was not ashamed of himself, on the contrary, he was also proud of his actions. Because if he himself cannot become the Universal Champion, then Age definitely cannot.
We take a look at the events surrounding Reigns, Balor, Corbin and Cena, where the last Universal Championship match took place. This match has now been officially confirmed. Balor will face Baron Corbin this coming Friday.
Ahead of the main event we take a look back at Sasha Banks’ “Before Tonight” return.
tag team match
Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair won against Carmella and Zelina Vega via submission from Carmella in Banks’ Bank Statement.
Match Time: 08:42
The two winners celebrate together in the ring when Banks suddenly attacks Belair from behind in the ring and confirms his claims for the championship. She also taps Belair in the Banks statement before putting the title up. And because all good things come in threes, she begins again with the Banks statement, from which Belair taps again. Unfortunately, the referee did not separate the two women until this unequal edition of SmackDown ended three minutes earlier.
